Aim of Program
The M.A. Program in Economics aims to equip its students from various backgrounds with the ability to understand, use, or extend research in economics. Graduates are typically placed as analysts or economists in either state or private institutions or continue with their Ph.D. studies in different parts of the world. Core theory courses Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Research Methods are complemented by field courses that are shared with the doctoral program.
Program Structure
The students should successfully complete 27 credits, 2 seminar courses (no credits –and in one of which the thesis topic should be presented) and a thesis should be submitted. There are 6 core courses (18 credits) and three electives (9 credits). Under normal conditions a student is able to graduate in three semesters. Under special conditions a student can ask for additional time with the advice of his/or her supervisor and the approval of the administrative board if he or she has completed course work within 4 semesters with a GPA of minimum 3.00 and has done his or her seminar on the thesis topic.
Admission Requirements:
- Istanbul Technical University Senate’s Admission Requirements (see: http://www.sis.itu.edu.tr)
- A minimum of 80 from ALES (equally weighted) or 700 (or 155 new scale) from GRE (quantitative) or 600 from GMAT
- A GPA of 2.75 (out of 4) or 71 (out of 100)
- 2 reference letters
